Experimental Dept. 1053 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/GR.{George Ratcliffe}6/JH. 30th June, 1937. The Zenith Carburettor Co.Ltd., Honeypot Lane, Stanmore, Middlesex. For the attention of Mr.A.E.Palmer. Dear Sirs, D.C.42 30 H.P. Carburettors. Dear Sirs, We find that it is possible to distort the choke butterfly and prevent the engine from running at all, under driving conditions. When a car is driven away cold, the engine invariably pops back into the carburettor. The choke is then closed halfway in order to accelerate. If the engine pops back into the carburettor with the choke half closed, the choke butterfly is slammed back fully closed by the explosion and seriously damaged. We would appreciate the co-operation of your Mr. Fisher on this matter. We have had this occur on two of our experimental cars. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
