To RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} 8324 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Std.3/JH. 21.9.36. Phantom III Fan Drive. We wish to run the Cadillac rigid blade fan on the Phantom III car (with a view to standardising this type of fan) using the increased speed ratio of 1.125 : 1. The present belt will not stand this and is in fact hardly adequate to drive the present standard fan. We therefore wish to try the schemes shown on attached drawings Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 223 and Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 224. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 224 showing twin belt scheme, is one recommended by Messrs. Goodrich while Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 223 is an attempt to get away with a single belt. Will you please have the necessary pieces detailed and made as soon as possible so that we can send whichever scheme is successful out to France to be fitted to 35-EX. We already have the twin belts for Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 224, but the large belt for Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 223 will have to be ordered from Messrs. Goodrich.
