Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer} E/HDY.{William Hardy}1/HP.14.2.36. Isolated Gear Lever - Phantom III. With a view to reducing cost, we suggest that a high brinell hardness should be used for the two shafts which bolt up to the pendulum lever on the gearbox instead of providing them with case hardened surfaces. The spherical bearings surface should come to no harm as the load on it is quite low. We should also like the ball cages for the change lever bearings tried in aluminium instead of bronze.
