movement has taken place where the tube is fixed to the crankcase bracket. The biting-in-bolt has a flat worn on it.
We have also had cases of cars where the bolts fixing this tube to the side member had worked loose. The fixing is not a very solid job. Sandwiched between the bracket and the side member is the bonnet strip and packing pieces to get the correct height. It has been noticed on several Goshawks that there is excessive movement of engine unit in the frame. This can be noticed when the car is being driven over a bad road, by the movement of the change speed lever and brake or gear box tower relative to the floorboards.
We believe the failure of the box on 5-Goshawk-11 was due to fitting, if not, we would have expected the box to fail on the bump rig before the steel tube.
We are carrying out further tests suggested by you on the steering box.
