Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}6/KT.27.7.33.

With regard to cut-out noise, we think we have spoilt this by putting the front resonance chamber on the exhaust system. We are making some tests and will let you know the results.

(3) New Carb. Needles. We find that these give a big improvement in consumption without adversely affecting the performance. We should be glad to have your confirmation of this.

It is conceivable that your petrol pump is delivering fuel at too higher pressure and therefore making your mixture over rich. Will you please make sure of this point by reducing the strength of the pump delivery spring if you can get a good consumption with the new needles. We are getting an average consumption of 18 m.p.g. with average speeds of 55 m.p.h.

(4) Shock Absorbers. These of course have no drilled valves, and we hope you will be able to tell us the best possible setting to suit your conditions.

(5) Brakes. We are of course greatly interested to know how your brakes are wearing and how the adjustment works.

(6) Engine Revs. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} says that the engine on this car would not rev. You should have no difficulty in getting up to 4500 r.p.m. on 3rd. speed. If you cannot it will either be due to contact breaker trouble or petrol feed, or mixture strength.

(7) Rattles in the Transmission. This we regard as serious, but as it is a big job taking the clutch down etc. it will have to wait until you have some time to spare. We hope eventually it will prove to be susceptible to the setting of the clutch centre.

(8) Tyres. Rothes will be at Tours about Aug. 10th. His car has "cracked up", and he will be going by train. I have asked him to get in touch with you when he arrives. Possibly you could pick him up on one of your runs and let him spend half a day at Chateauroux without interfering with the job. We want you to give him a set of worn out India tyres to send back to his Company, as they are anxious to see how they wear.
