To G/Rb.{R. Bowen} from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Mths.{Reg Matthews} E.R.A. BEARINGS. Will you please let us know the cost of producing bearing blanks in both centrifugally cast material and in material cast as a billet in Hall's metal, in order to produce the bearing shown on the attached drawing. In each case the material should be heat treated in readiness for final machining by the firm concerned. In the case of the billet cast bearings, these should be machined to the dimensions of the "as cast" centrifugal bearings. The centrifugal cast bearings will require practically no machining apart from parting off to approximate length. Will you also let us have the cost of producing bearing liners in R.R.56 alloy dimensions 1.5 x 1.0 x .105 thick, to be used in conjunction with this job. In this case again the shaping and reducing to final thickness to be done by the firm concerned. In the case of the bearings we should like cost figures showing the price for producing them in quantities of 50, 100 and 200, the quantities of the liners will be, of course, double these figures, namely 100, 200 and 400. We require these cost figures as early as possible in order that a price may be fixed for this job. Will you please return drawing to us as soon as you have all details as it is the only one we have.
