ORIGINAL X 1052 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/An/LG18.8.26. ================= 8-CYL. PANHARD CAR. ================= We understand that this car has a cylinder dimension of 85 X 140 which gives it a displacement of about 6.4 litres. It is fitted with two carburettors. Car tried - open touring body - weight 2000 kgs. + 3 passengers. STEERING. ========= The steering of this car appears, from the shape of the box, to be either of the Marles type or a worm and nut. We have asked Monsieur Weymann to obtain an Instruction Book for us so that we can verify this point. The ratio of the steering is 3 1/2 turns of the wheel from full lock to full lock. We should say that the turning circle is slightly greater than that of a Phantom i.e., the lock is not so good. There is flexibility in the side steering tube in compression only. This amounts to about 1/8 of a turn only. Four duplex Hartford shock dampers are fitted, two either side of the side channel between the axle and the chassis. The steering seems to be very nearly centre-point. In spite of this the wheel is practically vertical so that the pivot has a very large transverse rake. The tyres fitted were about the same dimensions as the Dunlop | ||
