EFC. BY12/H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} 26.8.24.

20 HP. CHASSIS GH. 21.

I have in my office at the moment Dynamo No.705 and Distribution Board No.717 which have been removed from the above car as a result of a complaint. The Test Dept. inform me that they have tested these units which were returned from Cricklewood, and agree that the shunt coil of the cut-out has broken down, whilst in addition, the dynamo appears to have the solder melted out from the commutator bar connection. Thebrushes are also slightly burned.

Would you kindly investigate the question of the cause of the over-heating and let me know whether you think it represents a case in which a distinctly bad connection has been made on the battery, resulting in excessive voltage on the dynamo pushing too high a current through the accessories, or whether you consider it is simply a combination of faults as has occurred in a number of cases, such as a brush too much retarded, micas projected, and such like faults.

Kindly send a lad to collect the two units from my Office.

BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer}
