CHASSIS DIVISION - PROGRESS REPORT.

SENIOR RANGE RATIONALISED CHASSIS.

Mileage.

The mileage covered since the last report Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}1/ML.24.1.41, is as follows.

Total Mileage.

Part Run. 24.1.41. 8.6.41.

6 Cyl. High Powered Engines. 50,000 73,727
8 Cyl. " " " 115,000 131,843.
Hydraulic Brakes. 150,000 182,000.
Semi-floating Axle. 290,000 322,000.

FAULTS.

Gearboxes.

There is now little more useful information to be gained from running these boxes. Failures occur from 15,000 miles upwards on B.V's and on the chassis we are using as a lorry at still lower mileages.

We are patching up the boxes as best we can, but doing this represents a large amount of wasted effort taking gearboxes in and out of chassis and curtails the meagre amount of experimental work that we might normally be expected to do.

There are five standard B.V's running, four in customers' hands, and one being run by Lp.{Mr Lappin} If these are to continue to run they will require five of the seven new boxes being manufactured, leaving only two for the various experimental cars.

We suggest this position should be discussed at the meeting.
