Dear Sirs, May I refer to your letter of the 17th ult., and Mr. Lenoir's interview with Mr. West some days ago, on the subject of the test speedometer, in which we submitted to you a proposed new type of total mileage recorder with lay-out similar to the trip recorder which has been fitted now for some considerable time with practically no trouble. On my return from holidays, I am informed that one of the discs of the trip recorder of this instrument was found to be cracked, and it was assumed here that this was caused by the instrument having been dropped here. I am sure that you will understand that this little point was dealt with as if it were our own fault and nothing to do with your test, but I personally think that it is quite feasible that the flaw was there during your earlier test. The disc in question was replaced here before the last return of the instrument to you, and I shall be extremely obliged if you will agree to give this instrument a further prolonged test, to enable you to agree to this new type recorder.
