To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} re 58-GN. Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}10/E25.1.33

As mentioned to you on the telephone I think you ought to get a report from your man who went to N. to deal with the valves on the above car because they seem to have got into a very bad condition.

I do not know when you last did anything to them at Derby.

The position is that the car was returned by you to me on September 7th last and your memo. of the 8th September said that amongst other things you had fitted the new head and new camshaft.

After that the car ran satisfactorily and it went to you again in November and came back on December 2nd, but your memo. of that date does not say if you had done anything to the valves or head.

As a matter of fact it began to have valve tapping noises fairly soon after that date.

It has only done 1600 miles since that date to the date I sent it in to N., but it had done 5400 odd since it was returned on September 7th.

The valves are still not satisfactory as, when the temperature gets above 70 or 80, they make quite a perceptible noise. I hope to demonstrate this to you on Friday.
