G.W.Hancock, Esq., Hotel de France, Chateauroux, Indre, FRANCE. 87941 From Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}5/MJ.8.7.31. We are very interested in the failure of the front exhaust box because BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} and ourselves do not see how this can be put down to the fact that it is made of mild steel. As you are aware, we have used mild steel exhaust boxes for years. The most probable cause would appear to be the sliding joint not working effectively. We should be very glad if you could let us know a few more particulars as we want to get rid of the Staybright material if we can possibly do so. On the question of bonnet locks I think you have got to bear in mind that essentially the scheme we adopt must be practical, even if we have to sacrifice a little in the result. We cannot expect to finesse with each individual car, on the question of bonnet fitting. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
