H.R. 199 (SOT) (SD676 19-7-17) MP186865 -2- This method of charging is rather uneconomical but should be used if it is found by experience that the conditions of running are such that a greater demand is made on the battery than can be replaced by the dynamos. Another point to watch in using this method is that the battery is on the low potential side of the supply mains in relation to the lamps, as otherwise, owing to the chassis system being an earthed one, the whole body of the chassis may be raised to a dangerous potential in relation to earth. Unless one has experience in these matters, it is advisable either to put this in other hands, or to remove battery from chassis for the extra charge. If a direct current supply is available in the garage it is a good rule to always leave the battery on charge at a very slow rate (less than ½ ampere) when the car is in the garage as such a procedure will keep the battery in thorough condition. [Handwritten note in left margin]: Too deep for average driver herein [Handwritten note at bottom]: Explanation needed as to how user is to ascertain this in any strange garage. | ||
