In Depot Sheet No.160 we pointed out the importance of the correct toe-in being obtained on the cross-steering tube, and the fact that there were a certain number of cars in service where this limit had not been adhered to.

Since then we have received a complaint from the Dunlop Rubber Co. that their service agents have been investigating the complaints of six Phantom 11 R.R. owners' with regard to excessive front tyre wear, and in each case they have found the toe-in to be greater than 5/16" - the maximum recorded being 3/4".

There is no doubt that if the toe-in of the wheels is excessive the tyres will wear abnormally. In view of this fact we think it would be as well to supplement Depot Sheet Hm.{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs}160 with the following paragraph.

"Whenever the front tyres of a car appear to have worn in an abnormal manner the toe-in should be carefully checked up and if it does not comply with the limits laid down it should be rectified. Excessive toe-in undoubtedly causes rapid tyre wear as well as having an adverse effect on the car steering in other ways."
