To Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} from EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} c. Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} re 8 Cylinder 25-HP. Daimler. Further to the information you obtained from our trial run in the above car on Friday, we think you might like to have the following weight particulars of the enclosed limousine on the Daimler by Hooper's, which we tried, and the corresponding weight of standardised enclosed limousine on the 25-HP Rolls-Royce chassis similarly equipped. The Daimler weights were very kindly obtained for us by Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} from Mr Slater Booth. It will be noted that the total weight of the Daimler car with 18 gallons of petrol is 2 tons 4 cwts 3 qrs. 4 lbs and the corresponding figure for the 25-HP Rolls-Royce is 1 ton 17 cwts 3 qrs 6 lbs. The Daimler is almost exactly 7 cwts the heavier. You will remember that our time on Brockley Hill between our usual timing points from a rolling start of 20 miles an hour in top gear was 47.375 secs. The corresponding figure for the enclosed limousine 25-HP Rolls-Royce is between 45 secs and 46 secs. The performance of the Daimler is not so poor as one would have expected from the engine capacity and the weight. Some of the loss in this direction is made up for by the 8 cylinder engine and the lower axle ratio.
