7401 BJG/H24.9.25. BALANCING OF FRONT WHEELS. Copies to Hu. Will you kindly have the suggestions made in the following copy of CWB16/LH{Mr Haworth}23.9.25 considered, and let me know the opinion of the technical officials at Derby? B.J. COPY OF CWB16/LH{Mr Haworth}23.9.25. I notice that the large steel washers which hold the balancing washers in place are very rusty in some cases. They will, of course, be painted by the coachbuilders, but there is always trouble afterwards with the paint flaking off if the material was rusty beforehand. I suggest to overcome this, the washers should be made of stainless steel. The appearance of the balancing washers on the wheels is also rather rough, as the ones made of Bakelite have very very rough edges. It would make a cleaner job if the washers were made in the form of a cylinder - quite thin on the side, which completely enclosed all the washers and when in place, came down to within say, 1/16th of an inch of the rim. As there are always a constant number of washers on each bolt, this should lead to no trouble and would give a much more finished appearance to the wheels than the present arrange-ment. (Sgd.)
