X23T. To Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls} c. to By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls}1/KT.12.5.33. PROPELLER SHAFTS. One of the items we consider could be lightened on the Bensport chassis is the propeller shaft. It now weighs complete about 26 lbs. We suggested to By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} using .062 tube instead of .092, but he considered .092 the minimum for tubes that have to be swaged at the ends. If, however, we used separate end pieces the thinner section tube should be an improvement. The whirling speed would be slightly raised. We could try welded tube which in America is said to be considerably better for balance. Elimination of the swaging would also be beneficial as regards balance. Will you let us have a design on these lines if you agree to the thinner tube. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Gry.{Shadwell Grylls} | ||
