Pedal recommendations for a Borg & Beck clutch system.

Borg & Beck Clutch PEDAL RECOMMENDATIONS To:- ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. Application Car Date 14th April, 1934. RELEASE BEARING ASSEMBLY OPERATING LEVER CONNECTED WITH THROWOUT FORKS PEDAL FREE ON SHAFT PULL OFF SPRING PEDAL MOVEMENTS. Movement from 1 to 2 is idle movement of the clutch pedal and is necessary to ensure a minimum clearance of 1/16" (which must be maintained) between the release lever plate and the release bearing (R). A spring should be used to retain the foot pedal lightly against a stop and to avoid the weight of the pedal riding on the release bearing and also to maintain the clearance mentioned. The amount of pedal pad movement from 1 to 2 will depend on the pedal ratio recommended (see our recommendations). Movement of pedal from 2 to 3 will ensure full and satisfactory release of clutch, and this movement will depend on the pedal ratio provided (see recommendations). STOPS. To maintain the clutch pedal position it is necessary to provide stops. Stop "A" is desirable to assist initial setting of pedal on assembly, and is a suggested method only. Stop "B" is a suggested method of limiting the travel of foot pedal and to prevent unnecessary damage to the clutch mechanism or release bearing. This stop can be of an adjustable character if desired. ADJUSTMENT. “C” is necessary to maintain the proper working position between the clutch and the foot pedal and also to take care of reduction in clearance (R) due to clutch facing wear.
