COPY. To Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Wym.{G. Harold Whyman - Experimental Manager} 8 H.P. STANDARD - FAR.649. We have the following comments to make on the above car: ENGINE. Periods at 26-28 MPH. and 38-40 MPH. both ways. Engine performance is good. Engine cuts out completely on full throttle below 10 MPH. - carburetter. CLUTCH. Smooth in action - no complaints. GEARBOX. Gear noise generally is passable except for side shaft which could be quieter. There is an over-run rattle 40-35 MPH. The gears are too hard to engage. REAR AXLE. This is a poor standard - bad period 25-30 MPH. both ways, forward being the worst, and another one at 40-50 MPH. - over-run being the worst. Most small car manufacturers seem to ignore axle noise. BRAKES. Generally poor - require too much pedal pressure and the lag between applying the brake pedal and the brakes becoming operative is very disconcerting. There are practically no brakes when reversing. Hand brake is nicely tucked away and pleasant to operate. STEERING. Over-steers with all tyre pressures tried - otherwise good - steady and no joggles. Steering column together with the front end of the car generally is very steady - Monocoque? | ||
