450b. To. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} CHATEAUROUX I/.27.10.38. ALL TESTERS 8.B.V.- BENTLEY III. We beg to confirm our telephone communication this morning concerning the following items. 1) Rebound replenishing valve of N.S.F. shock damper failed. The valve is dished and a circular piece .350" dia. has sheared out in the centre and the spring has been pushed through the hole thus formed. We are posting you the damaged valve to-day. We shall continue running with damping on one stroke only until the new valve arrives. 2) The rear damper link rubbers and washers have failed. The nuts have very nearly pulled through the washers and the rubbers are chewed up and have also taken a permanent set. We attribute this to the angularity of the movement caused by the opposing arcs described by the axle and the end of the damper arm, as shown in sketch. We have returned the damaged rubbers and washers for examination and fitted new rubbers and large flat washers .133" thick as a temporary measure. Larger rubbers with stiffer washers should be tried. | ||
