X.4238 - INDUCTION AND EXHAUST PIPE - GOSHAWK 11.

We send you herewith drawing LeC.1485 shewing the induction pipe with the original style of hot spot jacket but modified in form to provide gradual change in shape from the jacket to the pipe.

This should not only avoid a place where the pipe may be tempted to crack, but will also have the effect, we hope, of grading off the temperature.

It appears probable that the original scheme drawn out would have been quite all right had it had sufficient room to expand. The stud therefore in the junctions of this pipe to the cylinder head should be provided with very large clearance holes to allow both for expansion and for slight inaccuracies.

I am doubtful whether we should proceed with the two styles of pipe sent through of LeC.1459 and 1460 but will obtain this information from Mr. Royce.

E. {Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer}
