Chunking in the Drive.

With reference to Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux}19/KW.14.3.35 and the suggestions therein for reducing chunking, our remarks are as follows:-

1. Light Synchromesh Cones and Unit.

Our cones probably have more inertia than those of the Buick and certainly have much [struck through] more than those of the Cadillac. The reason is, of course, because they are larger in diameter.
We cannot afford to reduce the diameter but we can make some reduction of inertia by drilling lightening holes more extensively.
We suggest that the effect of removing the cones and the outer sleeve to which the cones are attached, be determined, if this has not already been done. The inner sliding piece cannot be left off, of course, but the inertia of this part is small compared with the cones.

2. Deeper Splines and Less Number. Giving more area of Contact and Less Slack. [struck through] x

The Cadillac has many splines of no great depth but of large mean diameter.
The 8 Terraplane has six splines of normal depth and very small mean diameter.
We have no details of the Buick.
We do not understand what benefit can come from a reduction of the number of splines.
We can provide more splines of greater depth and can increase the mean radius by 12% except for those for the top and third speeds which cannot be increased.
In top gear the 12% increase referred to would apply only to the coupling at the rear end of the third motion shaft.

3. Larger Teeth for the Direct Drive. Less Number and Less Slack.

We are suggesting (see N.Sch.4445) that we should make alterations to the SpectreCodename for Phantom III box which will give
