X.294 (struck through) X.3526 (struck through) X.40606 (struck through) In this connection we attach copy of a specification of electrical operation of dynamo for R.R. car, which we have made out for the purpose and which has been submitted to Messrs. Lucas. It is arranged that in the first instance they supply us with three machines experimentally which shall give, if possible, an output curve up to this specification. Regarding the Smith type 2D dynamos, we have also investigated the matter of advancing the control brush system on these machines, and we find that starting in the most retarded position of the machine allowed by the makers, the output is increased fairly rapidly at first without an undue increase in the heating of the machine. In one of the machines as received by us, the brush system was set rather more retarded than it need have been, and we found the output to differ considerably in the two machines, but we have since shown that the brush system on the first machine can be advanced to make the output similar to that of the second. Moreover, it has been agreed by Messrs. Smith that we may alter their setting to bring this about. When the output curves we have recently taken on these machines are issued to you, it will be seen that the Smith 2D dynamos can easily comply with the specification of electrical operation, of which we attach a copy, even in the most | ||
