(copy) X.2894 GENERAL ELECTRIC COMPANY General Office. SCHENECTADY, N. Y. Nov. 21, 1919 Mr. M.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} Olley, Rolls-Royce of America, 701 City Realty Bldg., Springfield, Mass. Dear Sir:- With further reply to your letter of November 10th. We are inclosing herewith sample lengths of tungsten rods which we are pleased to furnish no charge, for experimental purposes. We presume that this tungsten can be cemented in place in the spark plug but some method will have to be devised for making connection to it. Possibly there would be no particular necessity of having a direct connection as the high tension current would jump the gap and such a gap might be of advantage rather than a detriment in the spark plug construction. The only question as to the use of tungsten would be that the price would very likely be prohibitive as tungsten rod in a sufficient length for a plug and in the thickness furnished, would cost probably in the neighborhood of the ordinary plug that is now furnished complete. There possibly would be applications where the advantages of such a plug would warrant an increased cost, due to the use of a large amount of tungsten, but of course you can determine this much better than we. Very truly yours, SUPPLY DEPARTMENT. RDT:ES (signed) R.{Sir Henry Royce} D.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} Thomson. | ||
