Bailey - Chief Engineer} BENSPORT FRONT ENGINE SUSPENSION. In many ways this does not seem satisfactory, and I think will require modification. The first thing I noticed was the long studs standing up from the heavy drop forging. I should have made these of bar and screwed them into the forging. At the same time I think the scheme is not good because the lateral and longitudinal control of the engine is not sufficiently provided for, and would I think result in some bending stress on the stud. I suggest that the forging whether it is split or not, or simply brazed on as a saddle, should take the horizontal forces direct on to the forging, the stud merely acting to prevent the torque and weight of the engine from lifting it off the rubber. Other modifications will I believe be found necessary for practical construction. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
