Dear Sirs,

In response to your letter of the 22nd inst., your reference Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/AJL2/LG, as customs formalities are quite distinct from the registration arrangements in France, our opinion is that we should not be acting illegally or incorrectly in providing a French Triptyque for a car not registered in France, because presumably, your reference to the General Trade Licence Number Plates, applies to the English Trade Licence and not to French. We could not however, issue an International Travelling Pass, which as you know is the necessary document, serving as necessary registration permit and the licence for the driver or drivers specified on it, because under the International Regulations, only motor vehicles registered under English Law in the ordinary way can be provided with an International Travelling Pass.

If the object of your enquiry is to obtain a French Triptyque for a car which you will eventually register in France, as stated, we see no reason why we should not issue a French Triptyque, but it will be necessary of course, as you doubtless know, immediately the car reaches France, to open negotiations for the registration of it there. The triptyque however, is only valid for one year from the date of its issue, and the car would of course, have to be withdrawn from France within that period in order to prevent the forfeiture of the guarantee and deposit involved.

Yours faithfully,
[Signature]
Secretary.
