RR. Electrical System Fuses.

Replying to Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst.1/MA.26.5.33, we believe that everybody concerned is in favour of changing over from our present fuse holder to the cartridge type.

The open type of fuse has been demonstrated to be so uncertain in its action that this alone makes some improvement necessary.

Additionally it is a fiddling and difficult job to replace the fuse wire in the carrier, and an amateur is liable to damage the wire in so doing or use the wrong gauge.

We, therefore, propose to modify the design to the cartridge type as soon as it can be conveniently brought in, using not more than three grades of fuse.

With regard to the existing standard fuses, it is agreed that we ought to reduce the fuse wire gauge from 30 to 32 SWG tinned copper, which reduces the diameter of the wire from .012" to .0108" and should not materially increase the difficulty of handling.

It was further agreed to be inadvisable to issue a depot sheet covering this recommendation as we have not experienced any trouble due to this point up to the moment.
