1209 EJJ. from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/AFM.{Anthony F. Martindale} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/AFM{Anthony F. Martindale}2/R.7.11.38. BUMP HOUSE. We want to get the second set of drums in the Bump House electrified. We have the necessary electric motor and new pulley wheels. We find, however, that we cannot do without a variable speed bump rig and our suggestion is that we retain the petrol motor as an alternative drive. We attach a sketch showing what we would like to do. When the constant speed electric motor is driving the drums the gearbox on the petrol motor is put in 'neutral'. When the petrol motor is driving the drums at very low speeds, then the electric motor is also rotated, but when high speeds are required (which is very seldom) the belts may have to be removed from the electric motor. We are sending you a yellow Equipment Dept. requisition so that the new shaft may be instructed. We are also sending a yellow requisition for the spring test rig adaption of the present electric bump rig. We would like to know if you have given this job any consideration, as yet.
