SPRING MODIFICATIONS TO ENABLE US TO USE A SUBFRAME AT THE LATTER END OF "V" SERIES.

I would call your attention specially to the fact that the modifications which have been called for will demand standardization, and that whilst we are ordering the forgings up to give the new position of spring, we are not justified in fitting these on to the car until a standardization sheet has been completed.

The policy I have adopted at the moment is to order up forgings for the first 200 chassis only to the original type. For the last 150 I propose to order the new type. The reason why I am lapping the production by 50 of one type of the other is to enable us to have something to carry on with beyond the 151st chassis if the new subframe scheme is not completed and standardized.

If there is still a delay, it will be necessary for you to inform me at a reasonable date so that I can continue on the present type. The above will also apply to certain parts of the gear box, for instance, all the change gear mechanism, which, although it need not go on at the same moment as the subframe, the point being it can be put on earlier, if there is any doubt about the parts we will be prepared to carry on beyond the 151st chassis by having sufficient forgings in hand of the ordinary type to carry on.

At the moment, kindly stop the side lever mechanism forgings at the 150th chassis.
