-2- FLYWHEEL & CLUTCH to LOP.G.53692. Complete to the above LOP. incorporating G.I.476. Stiffer Flywheel & Crankshaft Flange. T.I.189. Oil Catcher & Modified Clutch Operating Sleeve And Guide to suit Automatic Spigot lubrication. The clutch has been very smooth in engagement and has stopped readily. At 5,000 miles it was noted that the clutch began to slip when accelerating in 3rd. gear. The slipping becoming more prevalent, we dismantled the clutch to ascertain the cause. This was found to be due to over-lubrication, a quantity of oil being found on the clutch fabrics. The oil catcher attached to the flywheel had not been efficient in flinging the oil clear. There are six drain holes which we found partially made up with oil sludge. It would appear necessary to increase the number of holes and the bore of same. We have found from various tests that the over-lubrication, which is automatic, is due to too much oil being delivered at certain speeds. If the supply is cut down, the lubrication is then starved at other speeds, therefore we do not think it is advisable to cut down the present supply of lubrication. To maintain a more even supply over all ranges of speed, we have fitted a felt washer in the clutch spigot, so that the oil will gradually meter through. Any excess of oil in the shaft would be flung out of the hole provided for priming. It has so far worked satisfactorily and there has been no sign of the clutch slipping. GEARBOX & ACTUATING GEAR to LOP.G.54610. There has been a consistent rattle from the plunger of the change speed lever during the torque reaction period and at 60 MPH. It also rattles on the retard from 60 - 50 MPH approx. This feature becomes worse as the oil in the gearbox warms up. There has been no trouble with the changing of gears, this feature being equal to standard production cars. SERVO MOTOR MECHN. to LOP.G.54015. Complete to the above LOP. to suit Crossmember moved 13.000" rearward as at 101 in Z. series. The servo is fitted up with ball bearing cams. This has worked very smoothly and no trouble whatsoever has occurred with the servo up to this mileage. EXHAUST FITTINGS to L.W.T.55724. Extended Swan Neck Exhaust Pipe and Support to Scheme 1473. Rear Silencer to E.S.3487 P.II Type. | ||
