INDIA 111 STEP IRONS.
--------------------

Further to the question of strengthening the double arm side spare wheel carrier brackets as requested in Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}2/MJ.19.8.29. we wish to point out that the brackets which we have produced have been made in accordance with N.Sch. 2859 on which you have shown and specified step iron, Piece No.F.54933, whereas step irons which we have instructed and are fitting to production chassis are in accordance with N.Schs.2644/5 which are 1.100" shorter than that shown on your scheme, consequently the fixing bolt for the spare wheel comes at the top of the slot in the plate on the carrier bracket.

This mistake was not detected in the Drawing Office owing to the fact that the scheme was detailed in another Department owing to pressure of work.

For 'O' series chassis we are arranging to let the spare wheel into the running board as shown on print F.56593, and to fit new aluminium castings with a large flange for bolting up to the plate on the carrier bracket with a view to giving the plate which fits in the hub shell a better base, but we would like to have the matter straightened out and to receive any modifications to design as soon as possible before we order material for 'P' series which the Works are now calling for.
