X 3588 GOSHAWK EXHAUST SYSTEM. -------------------------------- The present Goshawk has an exhaust manifold which is based on "N" Scheme 683, but is made of steel by welding. We think it will be quite right to use this manifold when the car goes to Mr Royce, and to adapt to it the after part of the exhaust system. Mr Royce has criticised our original schemes and we have modified them in accordance with his criticisms and have returned them to him. But we think that as the modifications were slight, it will be desirable to proceed with them at once, in view of the extreme urgency of the Goshawk. We accordingly send you "N" Scheme 683 - General arrangement of Exhaust System. "N" Scheme 683 shows the manifold, which we send to you in order that you may see the forward curve of the exhaust pipe. The present Goshawk has a flange in the place of the union, which was made by the Experimental Dept, and we think that the end of the exhaust pipe can be adapted to suit this flange, otherwise follow the lines of the scheme. "N" Scheme 686 - General arrangement of the silencer and tail pipe nozzle and "N" Scheme 684 shows the tail pipe and silencer brackets. The shape of the swan neck tail type is shown on "N" Scheme 683. The manifold should not be detailed as we are sending it together with several suggestions for the take-off of the hot spot supply for Mr Royce's selection. [STAMP] RECEIVED.
