S/W To Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} from Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} re Use of Ethyl. Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}6/E1.7.36 Referring to the above and our discussion at Derby last week, I have discussed the matter with C. and, in view of the information you gave us the other day, he quite agrees that we should raise no objection to the use of Ethyl and use it on our demonstration cars. I think the whole of the misunderstanding is due to the fact that the position has never been properly explained to Sales, i.e. they have never really been told that we were spending £3 or £4 a car making our engine suitable for the use of Ethyl. We did not even know that Ethyl was the same price as No.1. Would you please let me know exactly what cars this applies to. I assume it is 25/30's, 4 1/4-litre Bentleys and P.III's. There is evidently misunderstanding at Depots about this matter because im writing to Professor Dodds the other day I mentioned the use of Ethyl and he says that this is in direct contradiction to advice from the Service Station. It would appear, therefore, that Service Stations have never been told anything about it. Will you please see that a memo. is circulated to them explaining the points which were explained to us and making it clear for which variety of our cars you recommend it. Sg.{Arthur F.
