Accident report for vehicle 30-EX, detailing a collision with kerb stones while avoiding two other vehicles.

Report on Accident with 30-EX.

(5) Derby, By-pass road - Uttoxeter to Ashbourne.
(6) Whilst driving 30-EX (RC.{R. Childs}2406) along the Derby by-pass road from the Uttoxeter Road to the Ashbourne, an Albion Derby Corporation Transport lorry (CH.9959), driven by A.{Mr Adams} Foster, 15 Cheviot St.{Capt. P. R. Strong}, Derby, coming in the opposite direction, made a sudden right turn across the front of 30-EX in order to go to the Mental Hospital. It was impossible to bring 30-EX to a standstill in such a short distance, and as the lorry persisted with its intention, 30-EX was swerved towards the incorrect side of the road, letting the lorry pass. Behind the lorry, however, there was a Saloon 14 HP. Armstrong, R.A.6569, belonging to Mr. J.L.Phillips, 215, Uttoxeter New Road, Derby, travelling towards the Uttoxeter Road, which made it very difficult to bring 30-EX through without hitting either vehicle. The only damage done was by 30-EX hitting the near side curb stones at right angles. The speed of 30-EX at the moment of impact against the stones must have been small as it did not mount the stones, but merely dislodged several which appeared to have been supported against soft earth. One kerb stone is now broken. There appears to be no damage done to 30-EX, and neither of the other 2 vehicles on the scene were touched.

The ultimate damage is that to the kerb stones, and was caused by slight skid in result of avoiding a collision with 2 other vehicles. The lorry driver said he did not see 30-EX coming. The driver of the car behind said considered the lorry driver's signal confusing.
