The B.N.D. air hardening gear steel, whatever its composition, seems a remarkably strong metal, of a fair degree of toughness, but I suppose it is really too hard to make bevel gears of, as it would not cut accurately in our Bilgram machines. It might, however, bek tested for gear box work. R.{Sir Henry Royce} to see if it would make more consistently quiet gears. However, I understand that this is being met by the process of grinding after hardening by the new machine from Reinecker. | ||
