SIDE STEERING TUBE. X8450

1500 lb. springs are now being fitted to the side steering tube in considerable quantities to cure customers' complaints. These springs are very highly stressed at the limit of the ball movement. We can reduce this stress slightly if we reduce the initial load on the ball, but this alters the friction in the steering.

We suggest that, as it appears that we shall be forced to use these springs in large numbers, it is worth while re-designing the end of the side steering tube to accommodate a greater number of coils.
