JAPAN 3.

We are concentrating on that part of the design work required for getting a J.3. engine running on the bench, as there is much useful work that can be done on the power unit even if the completed chassis is not available.

BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} is going to help us with the part of the remaining work to be done to accomplish this since he has some draughtsmen available, and since one of our boards at ElmsteadHenry Royce's home in West Wittering has been absorbed for some time, and will be for some time longer yet on the new expanding carburetter for P. 2.

BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} will produce a design for a piston, and also induction pipes, on the lines of those sent through for J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} 1.

The remaining sections to get an engine running we have in hand, and are as follows:
Crankshaft Damper.
Ignition Governor and Ignition Unit.
Extra Lubrication.
Oil Filler.

The carburetters are in hand in the shops.

The valve gear can be made to the designs already sent through.

Self adjusting tappets can be fitted later.

We have completed the following sections since last reporting on the position of J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} 3., 22.10.31:
Torque Reaction Dampers.
Fan and Drive.
Front Engine Suspension.
Water connections and Drain Tap.
Exhaust Manifold.
