weights general Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}12/R.{Sir Henry Royce} 5th July, 1937. - Ward, Esq., Messrs. Park Ward & Co., 473, High Road, Willesden, N.W. 10. Dear Mr. Ward, As you know, I have always been very interested in weights. Experience in dealing with weights over a number of years has conclusively demonstrated that the tabulation of reliable weight figures is far from being a simple matter. We have finally adopted a scheme at the Factory whereby every time we weigh a part we include with the weight a photograph. This means that when the weights are referred to at a subsequent date, it is always possible to see exactly what is included. We find such information quite invaluable. I am enclosing herewith a weight analysis carried out on a typical American all-steel body. We wondered whether you could let us have a similar type of weight analysis for the present standard Bentley, in addition to an analysis of experimental bodies, such as that fitted to Lappin's car. From your point of view, you would probably like to break down body weights still further, and separate up the panelling and the frame work. Also on the American body the various mats and fittings are included. I would be happy to send my Assistant down, who has done all this work on weights, to discuss the sectioning, which would convey a maximum amount of information both to you and us, if you feel you are prepared to deal with | ||
