-2- (8) Governor. The governor has been disconnected altogether. (9) Stronger tappet springs and valve springs. (10) Modified exhaust valves. When you were at Derby it was agreed that we should fit a/starter carburetter. We find, however, that if we have this scheme and use a throttle stop, the starter carburetter will not work because of the leakage past the throttle. We are therefore persevering with the starter arrangement which is incorporated in the carburetter and we believe that we shall be able to make this entirely satisfactory. This would save us the cost and complication of the additional starter carburetters. In trying 58-GN car it should always be borne in mind that this car is fitted with low rating springs. This we know increases our difficulties as regards steering and road holding and we found that before we could carry out tests with the new carburetter on Brooklands we had to fit stiffer springs and Hartfords. As we pointed out to you on the telephone, we ought to make a modification to 58-GN carburetter as it is being used in conjunction with an autovac instead of a petrol pump. This is a very simple modification. We are sending to Lillie Hall one dozen Lodge HD.{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy}5 plugs. We should like these to be fitted to 58-GN because there is the danger of the present plugs pre-igniting. These new plugs have already been standardised as a result of tests in France. If there are any serious comments on 58-GN we should like to have the opportunity of trying the car with you and going over your complaints. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
