re- 34-EX.

CxIO/KW26.6.36.

At the Conference at W. on Wednesday last you suggested that if the clutch of this car was not remaining in good condition without dope you would like to change it for a clutch that you think will remain O.K., so as to test it out on our car because of its mileage and varying conditions of usage.

I have ascertained that the clutch is not staying 'put' without dope and had to be doped as recently as 24th instant. With dope it is behaving quite well.

It therefore seems that it would be a good thing for you to give us a clutch on this car that would behave perfectly without attention, and we should like to have it.

This car is coming up to Derby on Monday next for the use of the Sheriff, and we expect he will finish with it on the 30th at latest. The car is therefore reporting to Mx{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} by arrangement with him, so that he can have July 1st, 2nd and 3rd to decarbonise the engine for us, which he has volunteered to do. At the same time any adjustments that appear necessary will be carried out.

This seems to us to be an excellent opportunity for you to put in the clutch you want so long as you will not keep the car beyond the 3rd July, as we have further appointments for this car and do not wish to interfere with them. I presume in these few days you could do all you wanted to, and if so will you please arrange accordingly.
