Petrol System Failures. With reference to EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}7/WH.23.5.36. From the information that you give us it is very difficult to form an accurate opinion of what is happening. We should like to know - (1) How many cases such as you mention have occurred. (2) Have the petrol pumps in such cases been submitted to anybody to see if their performance is below standard. (3) Has a test ever been made to show that there is a difference between one petrol pump and another if the system is purposely drained of all fuel. Our own experience has been that trouble such as you mention is almost invariably caused by a leak on the suction side of the petrol pump somewhere in the line. If you will let us have a petrol pump taken from one of the chassis that gave trouble, and one from a chassis which is perfectly alright, we shall have some data to work on.
