1269 July 28th 1937 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std.3/AP. The Morgan Crucible Co.Ltd., Battersea Works, Church Road, LONDON S.W.11. Dear Sirs, We are thinking of trying a pair of your carbon sealing rings on a car water pump as combined seal and thrust rings. We would like to have any relevant information which you can let us have particularly with regard to the following points:- (1) What is the advantage, if any, of using a conical instead of a flat sealing face. (2) We have been given to understand by our Aero section that the optimum sealing pressure is 15 lbs/sq.in. - is this correct.? (3) Do you supply sealing rings in any shape or size - if not have you a catalogue of standard rings. (4) What metals do you recommend for use against these Morganite sealing rings. (5) What method is normally used for fixing the morganite ring into its housing - is it a push fit or are any retaining devices necessary. An early reply would be very much appreciated. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
