We are in receipt of a letter from these people dated the 16th instant, as follows:-

"We have received a complaint from the Director of Military Aeronautics to the effect that the gaps in the 20/1000" annular sparking gaps we supplied to you are not uniform, that is to say that the centre electrode is not exactly in the centre of the spark ring.

We wish to point out that owing to the springiness of the centre electrode it is an extremely difficult matter to adjust the gap so as to be exactly central, and we anticipate having difficulty when the gap is reduced to 15/1000 of an inch which is the new figure you have specified.

We wish to point this out to you in advance that we cannot guarantee to adjust these gaps within a greater accuracy that 5/1000".

As you are aware, we have ordered a fairly large number of plugs with the gap reduced to 15/1000" and we shall be glad to have your comment upon the remarks of the Lodge Sparking Plug Co. with as little delay as possible.

If, in the circumstances, you consider it advisable that the gap remains at 20/1000", please let us know at once.

Wd. {Mr Wood / Mr Whitehead}
