To R.{Sir Henry Royce} from EFC. c BJ. PN.{Mr Northey} c. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. RG.{Mr Rowledge} OY. c. EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} ORIGINAL. EFCl/T3.6.27. PHANTOM. MAGNETO IGNITION AT EVERY POSITION OF SWITCH. YU008 x8730 The question arises as to whether the arrangement of charging switch with extra switch (to put magneto out of action for the purpose of testing the battery ignition), viz. M & C M B & C M & B OFF should be standardised. One such complete arrangement has completed 10,000 miles on your car 7-EX, and a second one, without the addition of the magneto earthing switch, has completed 20,000 miles on 12-EX. But it will be remembered that the above, without the addition of the earthing switch, was our originally conceived arrangement, which was objected to by Sales - (1) Because of the impossibility of being able to test the battery ignition separately. (2) Because of the impossibility of being able to run on magneto ignition only, without charge. It was for the first of these two reasons that the switch was modified to the present arrangement :- M & C M B & C B OFF which has been and is considered by the Experimental Dept. to be the best all round arrangement, not involving the use of the extra switch.
