Re over-oiling Engines.

Mr Peat.                    7.4.15.

We have received your report of 14/2/15 re the above. I have discussed this question with Mr Hives and he appears to be rather of the opinion that the trouble is not quite as serious as might be gathered from your report.

With reference to your remarks about the centrifugal force, you must remember that one side of the crank web balances the other side. I can perhaps make this clear by referring you to the sketch.

Suppose this was a crank revolving round at high speeds and there was an oil-way running as shown in the sketch but not connecting with any bearing at all, you will of course realise that whatever retarding action centrifugal force may have on the passage B is being equalised by the helping action of passage A, and therefore oil would flow through the passage without being affected by the
