P.III TYRE NOISE.

We have now tried four types of tyre submitted to us by Dunlop in an endeavour to produce something that is more silent than our present standard tread.

It was hoped to achieve this by working on the Dominion principle of cuts instead of spaces at the edge of the tread where the noise is at present produced. Two of the types submitted show distinct promise; they are certainly more silent than anything we have previously had from Dunlops, and compare favourably with the Dominion cover in this respect.

It is much more difficult to assess the non-skidding qualities of the tyre. They do not appear to be appreciably inferior to the standard pattern.

It is impossible to ascertain whether these tyres will remain quiet until they have covered a considerable mileage. We have, however, had duplicates sent out to Chateauroux, and they will be run on 35-EX, which will be in France this week. It will not take long to get them in a part worn condition. We have asked Dunlops for duplicates of the two most promising treads, and have asked them to send a set of each to London as soon as possible.
