cc - Nadin Hulley Ross Oy4-E-122225 December 22nd, 1925. Mr. Claude Johnson, Rolls-Royce, Ltd., London, England. (Copy for attention of Mr. Royce " " " " Works Committee) Dear Sir: Re Autovac. In connection with experimental report No.3579 on Autovac operated by engine-driven air pump, we wish to inform Mr. Royce and the Works Committee that we have found the Stewart tank to overcome the mis-firing trouble which is present with the Autovac. We would suggest therefore that the use of Stewart parts in the tank or an arrangement with the Autovac Company by which they changed the action of their device on the lines of the Stewart would give satis-factory results. We have arranged with the Stewart Company to supply us tank parts, corresponding to those supplied in England by Autovac. They are at present making trial sets of parts which will be modified from their standard production only in the matter of finish and materials as follows:- (1) Cap to be nickel-silver casting with bright machined outside sur-face like Autovac. (2) Tank to be heavily-tinned sheet steel. (3) Pins of operating mechanism to be monel metal. (A U.S. War Office requirement suggested by Stewarts.) (4) Float to be "Aterite", an alloy similar to monel metal used by Standard Oil for gasoline pump valves, and used by us on the carburetter float with success. | ||
