PHANTOM III REAR BRAKES.

Modifications to improve Brake Strap Clearances to N.S.5141 and N.S.5147.

The clearances obtained as detailed to the above scheme are one series of fouls, and the whole scheme should be reviewed previous to consideration for Production.

The Phantom III Brake Assembly is too complicated and costly, and a general revision is preferred rather than slight modifications.

The introduction of Phantom III Continental Type Brake Assembly, as fitted to 39-EX to R.R.Sch.994, would mean that the cost of this unit would be reduced to one third the present cost of production, or alternatively, if the present type of Brake Gear is desired, we suggest a forged Brake Shoe incorporating strap, fulcrum boss, two screwed bosses and raised bosses in place of adjusting washers should be incorporated in one forging, as shown on drawing Ex.I.104 attached.

We suggest the Brake Strap Guides be deleted on all cars, as with the long fulcrum bosses employed on all straps the guides are ineffective and serve no useful purpose.

Will you please give this your consideration.
