EFC2/T28.10.25. -4- Contd. not be more suitable and he thought the poppet was better for dealing with the gases. I said I thought that if Mr. Royce designed an apparatus on these lines he would probably not admit the gases themselves to the small cylinder, but would use rotary valves and transfer the gaseous pressure to an oil medium in which the valves can work and by which the pressure would be transferred to the cylinder. In this case, the valves would probably be nearer to the main cylinder than before, and possibly two openings to the main cylinder would be necessary. Attached to R's copy will be found a page of my notebook upon which Mr. Murray made rough sketches with which to elucidate the principle. EFC. | ||
