GRX X5310 To BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from HDY.{William Hardy} HDY.{William Hardy}2/HP.29.12.33. c. W.R. H.S. De. RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} J.3. Gearbox - Reduction of 2nd speed Leverage. As it appears that the first J.3. box at least, will have a leverage of the 2nd speed S.M. mechanism 8% less than was instructed by us we think that before any alterations are made to regain the lost leverage, the result of the test of the box should be awaited. If the operation of the 2nd speed is satisfactory as it is, we may prefer to put the .075 travel which the 1st speed pinion has over our original amount, into increased width of the pinion and wheel.
